Los Angeles Harbor College, Northeast Academic Hall and Student Services & Administration Building
The LEED® Gold Student Services and Administration Building at Los Angeles Harbor College serves as the centerpiece of the new campus entry on “L” Street and provides students and staff with a welcoming, cohesive, and coherent setting. Efficiency was achieved by locating the high traffic Admissions, Assessment Center, Information, and Financial Aid functions on the first floor. Administrative offices and specialized Counseling services requiring appointments, have been located on the second floor.
Sustainability was not only carried out in the materials, orientation, and features, but infused into the overall design with items such as vertical sun shades that define pedestrian walkways and 2 story space with clerestory windows to provide natural light. All of these sustainable elements improve not only the efficiency of the building, but also the environment and atmosphere of the indoor and outdoor spaces.Since the Center is 36% more energy efficient than the Title 24 requirements, the District received a $86,000 incentive through the Savings By Design program.
