Stanford University, Schwab Residential Center
The Schwab Residential Center at Stanford University’s Business School is designed to seem more like an upscale modern business hotel than a traditional university dorm. This attractive 180,000-SF residential complex of small 3- and 4-story brightly colored apartment buildings is set among beautifully landscaped courtyards in a retreat-like setting. While the center is removed from the academic and social pace of the Stanford University Business School, it is also only a few minutes away from downtown Palo Alto restaurants and shops. The residential space consists of 200 private rooms, approximately 700-SF each, that are offered primarily to MBA and PhD candidates. Every room has ample study space and is connected to the Business School’s computer network, including a computer lab.
The new facility realizes the School’s goal of providing a place where students and faculty can gather, converse, share knowledge, and enjoy their surroundings by providing 22 break-out rooms, conference centers, study lounges, and 2 dining facilities where students and faculty are given ample opportunity to interact. As the Executive Architect, Steinberg Architects worked in association with Legorreta Arquitectos to provide Stanford University with this landmark facility.
